Originally from South Korea, But lived in Singapore for a long time. I developed my interest in English after spending several years studying in international and English speaking environments. I moved to Singapore at a young age, where I attended a British Curriculum International School for a year and a half, followed by four years in a local private school. In both settings, students were required to use English at all times including during lunch and breaks which challenged me at first but eventually transformed the way I learned languages.
Over time, speaking English consistently helped me stop translating from Korean and begin thinking directly in English. This shift made communication more natural and enjoyable, and it later allowed me to adapt quickly when studying in other English speaking environments. These experiences inspired me to build my own routines, such as thinking in English while planning my day, watching English videos without subtitles, and interacting with people from different countries to understand diverse accents and expressions.
In my academic life, I strengthen my English by completing presentations, assignments, and PowerPoint projects entirely in English. Helping friends with their work including subjects like Cyber Security has also become an important part of my learning. Explaining complex ideas in simple English not only supports others but also deepens my own understanding and confidence.
I stay positive by reminding myself that challenges are opportunities for growth. Whether I face a difficult presentation or struggle to express an idea, I choose to focus on improvement rather than perfection. Supportive classmates and teachers keep me motivated, and small goals such as helping someone at least once each semester guide me toward my long-term dream of becoming a business manager.
Studying abroad has taught me independence, gratitude, and resilience. Adapting to an English-only environment pushed me beyond my comfort zone and helped me appreciate the value of immersion. It also shaped my understanding of different cultures and broadened my perspective on education.
To grow together, I believe we should collaborate through study groups, shared presentations, and simple conversations during breaks. Encouragement, consistency, and teamwork will help all of us reach our language goals.
